Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum)

5.00

Height Category B

Bloom Time August

Prairie Dock is one of the more magical native plants. It's leaves stand out in the landscape with their huge size, from which a naked stem arises to a height of 6-10 feet tall upon which large yellow flowers are born. This plant is in the B Category because visually it takes up space primarily at that level with the leaves. The taproot allows it to be one of the most drought tolerant perennials we have, once again, it just needs sunshine.
